I had an idea for this gun based on a poster in Fallout 4. It's a combination of a solid state ruby and a CO2 laser. The handle and scope are attached with magnets and power is provided by the battery in the handle and travels through the glass via induction.

 

Thinking about the mechanics of something makes it more interesting to create.
